Looking to sell your collection? We are always buying!
If your stuff is something we are interested in buying, you will be made a cash (or) store credit offer. If you are satisfied with what we can offer you, then you will be immediately paid and on your merry way!
But, exactly how does this work?
First off, please call 954-748-0181 or email us first to get a time frame that we will have a buyer available to look at your collection! There is not ALWAYS someone on our staff available to look over your collection and make you an offer. Save yourself the trip and make that call ahead! It is also smart at the time of making the appointment to let us know what kind of stuff you have, but we do NOT need or want a detailed list of everything. This is just in case what you are selling is something we absolutely would not buy (for example, baseball cards) – that way we can save you the trip over or help direct you to someone who would buy those items.
You will need to physically bring in your stuff for us to evaluate. We cannot give you even a “rough estimate” of what we would offer you over the phone or by email. Please do not describe in detail your stuff, you will just be told to bring it in.
Once you come in, just let the TATE’S staff member up at the front know that you are here with a collection and that you called ahead. They will tell you to bring it in and the process will begin. Please do not stand up front and give us a running sales pitch about why “xyz” is amazing. Browse around the store a bit and we will come find you when we are through checking it all out. We are honest to a fault and will NOT steal any of your stuff, so please don’t worry about that. Also, you cannot drop off your collection and come back later, you have to wait!
After we look through your collection we will make you a fair offer (in both store credit and cash amounts) – it is up to you to accept or reject the offer. Any offer we make is only valid while you (and the collection) are physically still in the store. If you choose to leave and ‘shop it around’, we will have to go back through the collection and make you a new offer after you come back.
Store credit “tate bucks” are treated “same as cash” for in-store spending and do not expire or have any restrictions on them.
We will only evaluate collections that are for sale. We will not go through your collection and give you “grades” on each book, or tell you what is good and bad about each item. We do not “appraise” collections for insurance or legal purposes for free. If you need a value on a collection of items that are not actually “for sale” then please contact us and we can setup a special appointment for you.
Some tips that may seem like common sense… but you’d be surprised:
- If your collection smells of any scent, other than clean air, be prepared for it to be worth infinitely less. Old comics should smell like old paper, not cigarettes or cat urine. Same goes for if your stuff is covered with dust, dirt or mystery goo.
- Prices are based on their condition, how complete the item(s) are and whether or not we need it for our inventory.
- Do not expect to receive full retail/guide value for anything. That is not how it works! We can only offer you a fraction of the prices you see in the guide and on our shelves. Please understand that this is the nature of retail, we may sit on an item for months or YEARS before we can sell it. We may even have five of that same “rare” item in our backroom waiting to go out already. If you need to get full retail or *even close* to guide, we always suggest you take the time try and to sell your stuff at a local convention or through ebay. We also have a twice yearly “Park and Swap” event in our parking lot out front, where our customers can setup and sell their own stuff directly to other customers. There are limited seller spots available, so make sure you are on our email list …so you know as soon as the seller spot registration opens up!!
- Unfortunately, it is a fact of life that your collection may not be worth what you think it should be. Toys and comics from the 80s usually are not worth as much as you might think… and sadly some collections of comics are pretty much worth nothing. There are times when you should just donate the comics to goodwill or some neighborhood kids. Good karma has value too!
